Old Faithful Tours and Information

Quite possibly the park’s biggest attraction, Old Faithful is an impressive sight that is not to be missed!  Erupting fairly regularly every 90 minutes, the geyser is one of the most reliable in the park.  Contrary to popular belief, however, the geyser is not so regular that you could set your watch by it.  (Also Park Rangers do not control the eruption.  If someone tells you that, they’re pulling your leg!)  There are other geysers in the area that have more dramatic eruptions, but they are not as predictably timed.

Although Old Faithful’s eruptions may not be the largest in the park, the geyser is a very impressive sight!  With anywhere from 3,500 to 8,400 gallons of boiling water shooting over a hundred feet in the air, eruptions can last up to five minutes!

Because of the regularity of Old Faithful’s eruptions, this geyser is one of the most studied geysers in the world.  Researchers can estimate the duration between eruptions based on the length of the most recent eruption.
