Yellowstone Winter Tour Info

Winters in Yellowstone are not for the faint of heart, with temperatures often dipping (and staying) below freezing.  Although the climate is extreme, the opportunities provided in the winter months are one of a kind, and not to be missed!  Warmth lovers never fear!  We’re here to make winter enjoyable for you too; gorgeous scenery and wildlife can be enjoyed from warm snowcoaches, followed up by a steaming mug of hot cocoa by the fire!

Please note, many roads are closed in the winter, or are only available to snowmobiles and commercial snowcoaches.  Be sure to find out what is accessible during your stay, then grab your parka and head on over!

Some of our favorite things to do during Yellowstone winters:

  • Snowcoach Tours – One of Yellowstone’s best winter experiences available! Hop on a luxury coach and experience winter in Yellowstone from the warmth of your comfortable coach.  A unique and fun way to see some amazing sights!
  • Snowmobiling – Ride 300 miles of groomed trails outside of Yellowstone without a guide, or join a guided tour for a look at Yellowstone that you’ll look back on for years to come!
  • Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing – Join a guided tour or venture out on the trails on your own, however you choose to spend the day, you’re sure to enjoy the beauty and solitude of the park in the winter!
  • Junior Ranger Winter Programs – For just $3, children from 5-12 years of age can explore the area’s geology, wildlife, weather, and more! Earn a Junior ranger patch!
  • Photography – If there is one thing that you can’t forget (in addition to warm gear, of course!) when visiting Yellowstone, it is a camera.  The photo opportunities both in the park and in town are endless.
  • Cultural Attractions – Step inside to warm up and enjoy one of the area’s museums, theatre productions, or films.  Be sure to see what’s playing at the IMAX!
  • Ice Skating – One of the area’s most inexpensive winter activities, ice skating is a fun way to spend some time outside.  Bundle up, the rink is outside, and it will be cold!
